An exhibition showcasing the work of budding young nature photographers has opened in the Birnam Arts Centre.

The Wild Moments Nature Photography sessions, delivered by Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) and Jo Foo Wildlife Photography, gave children and young people between the ages of 8-18 the chance to connect with nature and work on their camera skills in the hills above Aberfeldy during Spring and Summer. Now as the festive season is underway, their work gone on display to the public.

Youngsters who attended Wild Moments were taken on guided nature walks among the rewilding projects at The Bunkhouse at Glassie Farm by local Environmental Educator and Nature Photographer Jo Foo. They then had the chance to gain the skills and knowledge needed to take spectacular nature shots with their own cameras and phones.

Speaking of the sessions, Jo Foo said:

The kids were fantastic. They were open and engaged and loved being out in nature. The sessions weren’t just about teaching tips and tricks for taking great photos, but they were also about teaching the stillness and patience that makes nature photography relaxing and rewarding. The work on show here is a real testament to how well they all did.

Speaking at the display in the Birnam Arts Centre on Sunday (15 December) Catherine Leatherland (PKCT) added:

I was extremely impressed with the enthusiasm and passion for nature and photography the young people had during the sessions in Aberfeldy. It’s amazing how quickly they picked up the techniques from Jo and the results are remarkable.

We hope that they’ll continue this passion for nature photography as they grow, and use it as a way to connect with nature, feeling the full benefits for their health and wellbeing. The Wild Moments events were very popular, and it is something we are excited to continue thanks to generous funding from The Gannochy Trust, in the coming years.
