Getting outdoors is important to mental and physical health and wellbeing, and the Cateran Trail provides a safe and accessible route for such exercise during these times of social distancing and restrictions.

The Trail is a fully waymarked 64-mile / 103 km route through Perthshire and the Angus glens in the heart of Scotland that it divided into five stages that can be explored over five days. It is managed and maintained by Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT).

The Supporting the Cateran Trail scheme was launched in 2020 and allows hotels, B&Bs and businesses of all sizes in Perthshire and Angus along the route to broaden their green credentials and contribute towards the improvement and maintenance of the much-loved route.

Wigwam Holidays Ballintuim plans to collect voluntary donations of £1 on every overnight booking from its guests to support PKCT’s efforts to increase access along the Cateran Trail and keep it one of Scotland’s Great Trails.

Steph and Carolyn Lennox from Wigwam Holidays Ballintuim said:

We are absolutely delighted to be involved in the business support scheme for the Cateran Trail. By offering luxury accommodation, together with a pick-up and collection service from every stage of the route, we are thrilled that we can help more and more people access and enjoy this beautiful and very special slice of Scotland’s history. As one of Scotland’s Great Trails, we are keen to offer our support and attract donations from our guests to ensure this route can be preserved, maintained and enjoyed for years to come.

Peter Quinn, PKCT’s Trust Director, also commented:

With continued restrictions affecting the hospitality industry particularly hard due to COVID-19, we are incredibly moved that Wigwam Holidays Ballintuim has decided to help look after the Cateran Trail.

The lodge lies just off Stage one of the Trail in Strathardle – a truly stunning part of the route.
