Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to take part in a photography competition celebrating the magnificent beauty of the River Tay from 1 March 2023.

Now in its second year, the TAYken By Me competition is being held by Pitlochry Festival Theatre (PFT) and Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT), as part of the theatre’s acclaimed project Shades of Tay, a Love Letter to Scotland and PKCT’s new long-distance active travel route the River Tay Way.

The competition is free to enter and open to all amateur photographers anywhere in the world, but all images must have been photographed during the competition dates – 1 March to 31 August 2023 – in the vicinity of the mighty River Tay.

TAYken By Me has five categories: Young People, Trees of the Tay, Wildlife of the Tay, Architecture of the Tay and Hidden Details of the Tay, each sponsored by local businesses or judges, who are each donating additional prizes for entrants in their category: Alan McCredie Photography, Dunkeld House Hotel, Perthshire Wildlife, Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Willowgate Activity Centre.

Each of the five categories has three awards: £50 for the winner, £30 for the second prize and £20 for the third place, and full category information, with specific eligibility requirements, can be found in the TAYken By Me Competition Rules on PKCT’s website:

The Judges will be looking for originality, creativity and technique and include professional photographer Alan McCredie along with Constance Boddice of PKCT, Deborah Dickinson of PFT, and PKCT Chairman Stephen Woollard.

Deborah Dickinson, PFT Producer said:

We are thrilled to be running TAYken by Me for a second year with PKCT. The river Tay and the surrounding landscape is stunning and has much to visually delight and inspire photographs.  We are looking forward to receiving lots of fantastic images.

Peter Quinn, PKCT Trust Director commented:

Photos that came out of the first TAYken By Me competition blew us all away. It was incredible to see the range of ages of photographers who were so perfectly able to capture the landscape of Perthshire near the might River Tay. We have been very excited to work with PFT again on this competition and hope all amateur photographers out there enjoy get outdoors, being in nature, discovering the River Tay, and enjoy photographing those experiences.
