Over £500,000 of path upgrade works are expected to start on part of the NCN 77 cycle/ foot path (core path DUNK/145) in Dunkeld on 25 March 2019.

The path from Dunkeld House Hotel to Jubilee Bridge will be upgraded to improve accessibility and create a modern, multi-user path suitable for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users and others. Works are expected to start on 25 March and the planned completion date is 31 May, the path will be closed throughout the work.

Suggested alternative routes for some mountain bikers and walkers will be via the Inver and Fiddler’s Paths. An alternative route for touring and road bikes is along Regional Route 83 which follows the old A9.

Andrew Barrie, Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) Strategic Routes Officer, who is managing the project, said: “This is a great opportunity to improve a well used section of path for all users and improve their experience. It will mean the section is closed for a number of weeks but it will be worth the wait”.

Local business owner Adam Flint of Progression Bikes in Dunkeld said ‘This is great news for cyclists and other path users, it will make a safer, easier route for people to go from the village out to places like Craigvinean Forest and will connect up to wider cycle and path networks which will benefit local businesses.’

The work is being funded by Sustrans, who aim ensure that the people of Scotland have access to a network of safe walking and cycling routes, and is being delivered by Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust.
