A conservation project seeking to train citizen scientists to monitor the health of the River Earn and its tributaries is looking for further volunteers. After an initial meeting in Auchterarder in early February, we are now moving towards a training day event in late Spring.

The Auchterarder Guardians of our Rivers Project, coordinated by Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust and delivered by Buglife Scotland, will monitor the population of freshwater wildlife that indicates water quality and the sustainability of the river as a habitat for a range of species.

The programme is open for anyone who would like to be involved in project and learn about how they can help identify various invertebrates and monitor the health of the river.

Buglife offer free training on how to:

  • monitor and survey rivers for invertebrates
  • identify various invertebrates
  • spot early warning signs of a habitat in crisis
  • record findings with the Freshwater Biological Association
  • share your stories and lessons with other communities
