Off-grid fuel company Avanti Gas, which provides Liquefied Petroleum Gas to homes and businesses nationwide, has made a generous donation of £3000 to Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT).

With bee population in decline nationwide, PKCT will use this funding to help support local bees by training 6 new beekeepers through their Tay Landscape Partnership (TayLP) Project.

Training, provided by the Perth and District Beekeepers Association in March and April this year, will teach the new beekeepers the skills needed to start this fascinating new venture, from bee behaviour and approaching a colony, to averting swarming and how to collect the honey.

And thanks to Avanti Gas, the new beekeepers will not go home empty handed – they will be provided with a beekeeping starter kit, provided through the TayLP, which includes everything they need to make a success of their new project, including the bees!

Catriona Davies, Access and Biodiversity Officer for TayLP said, “Bees are an incredibly important part of our landscape, especially as pollinators of orchards, crops and wild plants, and this funding will provide six valuable new beekeepers and keep the traditional skill of beekeeping alive in the area.”
