Senior pupils from Glenalmond College braved the elements last week to clear overgrown vegetation from the grounds of one of Perthshire's most iconic landmarks.

Hardy volunteers from the Perthshire secondary school teamed up with Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) and Rangers from Perth and Kinross Council to tackle areas around Dunkeld Cathedral and open up views of the historic church.

The work to clear out weeds and scrub forms part of a community wide effort to improve access and the appearance of the area around the cathedral, with Historic Environment Scotland and Dunkeld House Hotel looking at restoring the ornate railings, and a range of groups including The National Trust and PKCT exploring opportunities to reopen, reorientate, or resurface paths in the area.

Speaking about the work at Dunkeld Cathedral, Andy Barrie (PKCT) said:

The pupils did an excellent job in less than favourable conditions. They worked exceptionally hard to clear out areas around the Cathedral grounds that will really help the Dunkeld and Birnam community to restore and improve the area.

We are extremely grateful to Glenalmond College for their hard work. Their pupils have worked regularly with the council's Greenspace Rangers and PKCT for several years on a range of outdoor tasks around the region, and their efforts really make a difference to those of us who love spending time outdoors.
