An evening event with mountaineer Cameron McNeish successfully raised over £1,000 towards Perthshire’s iconic countryside.

Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT), for whom Cameron is patron, hosted the event at Birnam Arts on Wednesday 27 April, at which Cameron gave a talk on his love of the countryside, where it all started, what we can do to protect it, and answered questions.

An Evening with Cameron McNeish

Well over 100 attended the event, from which all proceeds went to PKCT and its projects aiming to conserve, promote and improve access to the Perthshire countryside for the benefit of everyone.

The event was graciously sponsored by Dunkeld House Hotel – a long-time supporter of Perthshire Big Tree Country and tree conservation projects both run by PKCT.

Cedric Wilkins, PKCT Chairman, said of the event:

It was incredibly heart-warming to see so many faces at our evening event with Cameron in support of the work we do and because of a shared love of the outdoors. Cameron’s support of the work we do has been incredible, and we will ensure funds raise from the event benefits the Perthshire countryside and all those who love it as much as we do. We look forward to seeing more of everyone in this our 25th anniversary year.

Cameron McNeish commented as well:

My love of the countryside has defined who I am for years, so to share my experiences and learn about the passion others have for it was fantastic. The evening event was a great success all around for PKCT, Birnam Arts, and everyone who attended. As the weather continues to improve, I hope as many people as possible of all ages in Perthshire, and indeed right the way across Scotland, get out into their local countryside and explore.

This event happened as part of PKCT’s 25th anniversary year, for which Cameron planted a silver birch for the silver jubilee of the charity.

PKCT also launched a Friends scheme for everyone to help support the work it does in the Perthshire countryside.
