Everyone who loves the Dunkeld tree trail are welcome to support plans to improve the route the woods and back along the River Tay by choosing it as their Co-op Cause.

The Dunkeld House Tree Trail – one of the stars of Perthshire Big Tree Country and part of the long-distance route the River Tay Way – has been selected to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund in Dunkeld. Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) would like to improve and update the path and tree trail interpretation that runs through the woodland from Dunkeld Cathedral to Dunkeld House Hotel and back along the mighty Tay.

The tree trail itself is a well-loved and well-used waymarked circular route that would benefit from improvements to the path surface, new signage and new interpretation, especially as some of the current signage is very old, worn and out-of-date.

Peter Quinn, PKCT’s Trust Director, said:

Dunkeld House Tree Trail hosts an incredible array of trees, features a hugely popular path, and some of the original Perthshire Big Tree Country interpretation. We believe giving this fantastic site a bit of well-earned TLC to make the path even more accessible for everyone of all abilities and refresh the interpretation for the tree trail to make it an all-around accessible experience for tree-loving visitors and residents alike will benefit everyone.

This project will help improve the health of users, promote education of the natural environment, and improve the area’s tourism offering all as part of our 25th anniversary year celebratory projects.

Cameron Cormack, Co-op Member Pioneer for Dunkeld and Pitlochry, commented:

The Co-op is a business with a difference. We are owned by our members and other Co-ops, not big investors and we put helping our communities at the centre of everything, it’s what we do!
