Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust (PKCT) are looking for enthusiastic young people with a passion for the countryside to join their new youth council and help encourage people to make the most of the countryside.

PKCT are looking to recruit a range of young volunteers aged between 12 and 18 who would like hands on experience of working with the Countryside Trust to help us get people into the great outdoors, learning about nature, and fighting climate change.

Youth Council members will attend four meetings a year to discuss, debate and shape the work of the Trust as well have the opportunity to gain skills and experience to help them progress in all aspects of their life.

Catherine Leatherland (Discovery Learning and Engagement Officer) from PKCT said:

" We’re excited to welcome out first cohort of youth council members and to hear their views and ideas about the work we are doing.

Our mission as an organisation is to get as many people from as many ages, stages, and backgrounds into the countryside to appreciate nature and enjoy the health benefits of fresh air and exercise.

It is great for us to have young people take a seat at the table and have input into the work we’re doing, but hopefully it will also be great for our volunteers to take an active role in our access, education and conservation projects and see their input translated into action.

Our council meetings will be fun and friendly and however you enjoy the countryside, we would love to hear from you. "

Young people interested in the Youth Council can find out more and apply on the PKCT website here by Tuesday 9 February 2024.

The Youth Council initiative forms part of PKCT’s Grow Wild project, which is designed to increase youth engagement with the countryside. The Grow Wild project will also see the launch of a new outdoor learning programme which will be trialled with youth groups and will include online resources devised to get young people into the great outdoors and give them a better understanding of their local environment.

PKCT’s Grow Wild project is made possible by generous funding from The Gannochy Trust’s Youth Panel Fund. For more information on the Youth Panel Fund click here.
