VALUING AND MANAGING VETERAN TREES

This is a one-day course, devised and delivered by the Ancient Tree Forum and the VeTree Project.

The course is for community members interested in veteran trees such as the Birnam Oak and Fortingall Yew.  This courses will provide an introduction to valuing and managing veteran trees and will cover:

  • The definition of a veteran tree its importance for biological or heritage value
  • Why trees can live so long
  • How and where roots grow and why they are important
  • How to undertake a survey of a veteran tree in the field
  • Assess where management is likely to be appropriate for old trees or their surroundings

This course has been organised by the Friends of Birnam Oak supported by Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust and the Ancient Tree Forum Scotland.

The course will be delivered by Adam Riedi, arboricultural consultant and co-ordinator of the Ancient Tree Forum Scotland.

Attending the course is free but there are limited spaces, so pre-booking is essential.
